Have you heard about Skin Laundry?

I have always been very intrigued by laser skin treatments. I have heard a lot about the benefits of laser treatments, but the price tags of them always got me discouraged from trying them out. Well..Skin Laundry's founder wanted to solve this exact issue that I had when she founded Skin Laundry.

What is Skin Laundry? This is what they say..."We’ve taken world-class laser and light therapy out of the doctor’s office and put it into our Skin Laundry clinics – where it’s fast, affordable and incredibly effective. Our revolutionary treatment administers the perfect dose of laser and light to deep clean skin every time, dramatically improving it over time. The treatment is so easy–skin looks refreshed from the moment you walk out the door. No makeup necessary."

On the day of my birthday this year, I wanted to do something fun and new. While doing some googling, I came across Skin Laundry that offers a free session to its new customers. So I had to give it a try. It promised for a 15 minute treatment that was going to help with my overall health of my skin..and it was FREE so I made a same-day appointment and showed up to a Skin Laundry near me.

On your first visit, they go over guidelines and personal/medical history. Then they give you a wipe to cleanse your face. It doesn't soap up nor tingle, but it took all my makeup off.

It's technically a simple makeup wipe that's packaged individually.

After you cleanse your face, they call you into a private room where a nurse goes over your chart and if there is an update on your medication history etc. Then she puts on laser goggles for you, aka the goggles they give you a tanning salons, aka alien eyes (lol), she starts with the first set of the two lasers that will be used.

This is how my Skin Laundry location's private room looks like. (The laser machine is hidden behind the closet doors until the nurse comes in.)

First laser they use is called the YAG laser. This is what their website describes about the YAG laser. "Our YAG laser penetrates 2.5 mm below the skin’s surface to deep clean by vaporizing dirt, dead skin cells, debris and excess oil and kill acne causing bacteria. It also reduces hyperpigmentation and boosts collagen, which smooths and tightens the skin. The only way to reach the dermis is through laser, making our Laser & Light facial the ideal anti-aging preventative treatment."

This feels like little pop rocks popping on your face. It's more of a tingle than any pain. I get laser hair removal and THAT is painful..whereas this felt like tingle at MOST. There is a smell with this laser..it smells like burnt hair, which they assure you is the smell of excess oil/debris being burnt off and not your skin.

Before she goes over my face with the second laser, the nurse put on a cooling gel all over my face. The gel helps to alleviate the heat the second laser emits so it's a comfortable procedure.

The second laser is called the IPL. This is what their website describes about the IPL. "Our IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) fades sunspots, helps get rid of acne scars and broken capillaries on the surface of the skin and destroys light-sensitive acne-causing bacteria. It also gives overall photo-rejuvenation for smoother brighter skin."

With the laser, even with the goggle, and keeping your eyes closed, you will see heaven being shined upon you each time they laser you. The light is SO BRIGHT, that I jerk each time, which is just ME being me..since everything scares me, but because of the cooling gel, I do not feel anything from this laser, just the BRIGHT light. No smell/no pain with this one.

So..how much is it going to cost me?

Each session is $65 for the 15-minute session. If I wasn't too clear before, EVERYONE gets one service at Skin Laundry, which are the two lasers listed above. There are few add-on items but the laser treatments stay the same for every session/every skin type. They do have memberships that offer discounts..like if you commit to come two times a month...it's $110 a month (there are a lot of options you can choose from) , and I also received a free cleanser and a tote bag when I joined the membership and a free sheet mask after each session to take home.

So is it worth it?

I definitely think that skin needs to be taken care of, and I see this as an investment for the future of my skin. I've had my 4th session in mid-March, and I personally don't see a life-changing result on my skin but in everything, I know that it takes consistency and commitment of time to see good results so I am going to continue with my membership and I do enjoy going.

If there is one thing that I want to see at Skin Laundry....will be to see more luxurious add-on items. For example..I don't mind taking my own makeup off but I wish that they would put on the sheet mask for me as part of the session, put on the mositurzier with a better tool/or even their hands and not with the cotton pads that they use now etc. I get that their whole concept is that it's a quick/inexpensive treatment but I think there are some customers who are willing to pay little bit more for little bit more service.

Also, I saw some people discuss this on the yelp pages of Skin Laundry..but you do NOT tip your nurse after your sessions. I know that most spas, you would tip your facialist (?), but they are nurses/medical professionals, and so you do not tip them. You actually sign HIPAA agreement on your first visit, as they are considered a medical facility.

I will definitely do an update on how I feel about Skin Laundry after my 10th session. But when the first session is free...why not go for yourself to try it out!?
